Relaying Permissions
 (United Kingdom)
In the 'Installation Guide' it states that it is a requirement for 'Relaying Permissions' for 127.0.0.1 on the Mail Server.

If this is done on SBS2003 it appears to cause the Server to act as a 'Open Relay'.

I think the only effect of not allowing the 127.0.0.1 to relay is the rejection messages not to be sent. Is this correct?

Re: Relaying Permissions
 (Australia)
Granting 127.0.0.1 relay rights on your Exchange server should not turn it into an Open Relay. How are you testing for this? Remember that 127.0.0.1 is the loopback address and is only accessable from the server itself.

And I imagine that you are correct in assuming that the relay rights are simply for sending rejection messages. Actually, in the
5.0.2 Beta manual, it says (I quote):
"Make sure that the IP of your server has relay permissions (if not, the rejection message can not be send) Include both the real IP as the loopback address (127.0.0.1). THIS IS A PROPERTY OF THE SMTP VIRTUAL INSTANCE, not ORFilter!!!".

This seems to imply that you must also allow the actual IP addresses of any interfaces on the server also - I imagine this would not be the case, but who knows, its something to keep in mind if you use rejection messages.

Hope this helps.

Peter
