The "error connecting to pipe" problem
 (United Kingdom)
Sorry to revisit an old topic, but there didn't seem to be any resolution suggested to this one:

- ORFilter on W2000 with Exchange 2000 (latest SPs for both *and* patches too).
- Without the ORFilter service started, mail is delivered locally (i.e. incoming SMTP traffic) successfully
- With ORFilter server started, NO mail ever arrives locally.
- With ORF running, I can see the SMTP transcript by inspecting the log of an external server and it shows mail apparently being delivered completely successfully
    - ORF server issues: 220+this is me message
    - remote server says: HELO
    - ORF responds with: 250+....
    - remote: MAIL FROM
    - ORF: 250+....
    - remote: RCPT TO
    - ORF: 250+....
    - remote: DATA
    - ORF: 354+
    - remote sends body
    - ORF: 250+2.6.0++<remotemessageid@remoteserver>+Queued+mail+for+delivery
    - remote: QUIT
    - ORF: 221
This is exactly as I would expect.

The ORF log shows (and this tells me that the .XML config file is *mostly*, if not completely, correct - it's 98% out of the box - the changes are just some trues to falses and vice versa):
    - 16/11/2007 07:16:00 <remote server IP>,<remote mail address>,,0,,,--%3e-1+points+for+DNS+blackhole.compu.net+applied+to++

The Exchange logs shows just:
    - <remote IP> <DNS of remote server> SMTPSVC1 <local server name> <local IP> MAIL - +FROM:<remote e-mail address> 0 0 54 45 7906 SMTP - - - -
    - <remote IP> <DNS of remote server> SMTPSVC1 <local server name> <local IP> 0 QUIT - <DNS of remote server> 240 8109 54 45 7906 SMTP - - - -

I notice that in the local server event log that for (apparently) every inbound SMTP connection, there is an ORF generated entry:
- (ID 1000) "Error connecting to pipe \\.\pipe\Connect . Internal error: 0"

Phew - sorry about the long post, but you have all the info I have!
Any clues anyone?  ORFilter looks excellent, but currently is worse than useless since it is losing mail both spam and ham.

Regards

Mark
